Xocalı Harayı: Xocalı faciəsi rəssam Nazim Məmmədovun gözləri ilə
Nazim Mamedov, born in Baku, perceived the unique architecture of the ancient city and the sandy shores of Khazar as a source of amazing beauty. After graduating from the Azim Azimzade Art School in 1957 and a two-year course at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow, Nazim Mamedov worked at the Azerbaijanfilm studio. He made 12 full-length animated films as a director, production designer and animator, and laid the foundation for national animation with his films. All his works were distinguished by their style and plot, and each work aroused great interest among art lovers, especially those who were devoted to the Khojaly tragedy. Perhaps, this is why these works, preserving the living style of Nazim Mammadov, worthily represented the Azerbaijani film school at various film festivals. In the presented book-catalog “Khojaly Massacre”, Nazim Mammadov, influenced by the Khojaly tragedy, depicted the tragic events there by painting them on canvas. The main feature that distinguishes his style in the field of painting is that the graphic beginning, which demonstrates the conventionality and decorativeism in his brushwork, is enriched with coded symbols. The final result of this difficult work he did showed that despite all the stylization and artistic conventionality, “Khojaly Massacre” is effective and emotional. He managed to create numerous memorable paintings and graphics by merging the painful images of the Armenian aggression with his inner experiences.
