Gurama
Gurama is one of the oldest forms of artistic textile in the Azerbaijani people's rich arsenal of traditional arts. This book by PhD in Art Studies Amina Melikova is dedicated to this very craft. This book highlights the various aspects of the development and functioning of this form of craft. The main emphasis is on a historical overview of the social and intellectual significance of patchwork in the Turkic world, of which Azerbaijan is an integral part. There is also a focus on the development of patchwork in the New World, as a culture that certainly inherited European traditions, but which also promoted this type of needlework in a context of different character, one reflecting the specifics of the American society of the 18th and 19th centuries. This book is about the Azerbaijani gurama, its past, present and - what is especially important - its future. Gurama is not only of practical importance. This is art. This is a philosophy, a system of concepts according to which Azerbaijanis have lived for centuries.
