Presidential Library receives 23rd volume of “Vedibasar” newspaper
As a media outlet, shedding light on the tragedies inflicted upon our people over the past two centuries, the loss of land, and the glorious combat path of the brave heroes who gave their lives for the Motherland constitutes the central line of “Vedibasar”’s mission. Founding the “Vedibasar” newspaper 23 years ago and transforming it into a platform for all of Western Azerbaijan has become the life creed of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Sartib Islamoghlu. The newspaper, whose first issue was published on February 27, 2003, continuously reaches its regular readers. Continuing its 23 years of operation through countless challenges, “Vedibasar” has strived to illuminate every era of our historical past and managed to mobilize intellectuals to uphold our traditions and prevent our folklore from being forgotten.
Although “Vedibasar” is currently published in Baku as an independent political and public newspaper, it carries on the press traditions of Western Azerbaijan thanks to its modest corps of correspondents.
The “Vedibasar” newspaper has managed to achieve a first amid the abundance of media outlets. Thus, “Vedibasar” is the only newspaper whose every issue since 2003 has been printed in separate annual volumes and delivered to its readers and libraries. Equally noteworthy, the “Bibliography” covering the 20 volumes of “Vedibasar” published to date has also been issued as a standalone book.
A number of scientific articles by prominent scholars—including Budag Budagov, Yusif Yusufov, Israfil Mammadov, Suleyman Mammadov, Teymur Ahmadov, Kovsar Tarverdiyeva, Israfil Abbasov, Ismayil Valiyev, Gazanfar Kazimov, Firudin Aghasioghlu, Jafar Jafarov, Asgar Zeynalov, Aziz Alakbarli, Aslan Bayramov, Avtandil Aghababali, Jabi Bahramov, Nazim Mustafa, Tamilla Karimova, Jalal Zangi, Ibrahim Bayramov, Farrukh Rustamov, Hasan Bayramov, and Tajir Samimi—have been published on the pages of “Vedibasar”.
The creative works of poets and writers such as Hidayat, Eldar Ismayil, Telli Panahgizi, Nasiba Israfilgizi, Rafig Musa, Ahmad Vedili, Abulfaz Ulvi, Maharram Huseynov, Abulfat Jafaroghlu, Zaur Vedili, and Vagif Azeri (Imanov) adorn the pages of this newspaper.
The 744-page 23rd volume of “Vedibasar” presented to the Presidential Library, covers issues 528–551 of the newspaper published in 2025.
Our lands have already been liberated from occupation, and our state’s sovereignty has been restored. A new reality has emerged. In 2023, the Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan was adopted, and practical steps are being taken toward its implementation. Appeals are being made to international organizations to provide legal guarantees for the return to Western Azerbaijan. Today, “Vedibasar”’s goal is to regularly instill the idea of returning to Western Azerbaijan in its readers. Through its platform, “Vedibasar” mobilizes its readers to bring this sacred day closer.
Like the previous volumes of “Vedibasar”, the electronic version of the 23rd volume has been uploaded to the “Collections” section of Electronic Books at the Presidential Library.
The collection of the “Vedibasar” newspaper is a valuable resource not only for those studying the history, folklore, and tangible cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijan, but also for researchers of press history.
