The virtual collection “Rare Books” has been enriched with five valuable editions reflecting various areas of the history of world literature, art, and cultural thought. Representing the literary and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, England, Germany, and France, these books provide users with an opportunity to explore in greater detail works published in different languages during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The first edition included in the collection is Essays by William Temple, a 17th-century English writer, diplomat and statesman. The work reflects the author’s views and reflections on literature, history, culture, politics, and public life.

Another noteworthy edition included in the collection is Hanne Nüte un de lütte Pudel (Hanne Nüte and the Little Poodle) by the German writer and poet Fritz Reuter, published in Wismar in 1880 in German. The book portrays rural life in Northern Germany, the everyday life of its people, their traditions and customs, as well as the nature of interpersonal relationships.

French literature is represented by Le Prince Serge (Prince Serge) by Jeanne de Coulomb, published in Paris in French in the late 19th or early 20th century. Against the backdrop of the protagonist’s life journey and moral development, the work places particular emphasis on such values as family, friendship, kindness, compassion, and responsibility.

One of the editions in the collection devoted to art is Das Künstlerbuch. Arnold Böcklin (The Artists’ Book. Arnold Böcklin) by the German writer and art historian Franz Hermann Meissner, published in Berlin and Leipzig in 1901 in German. The book is dedicated to the life and work of the distinguished Swiss artist Arnold Böcklin, his artistic world, and his creative legacy.

A special place among the presented editions is occupied by The Seven Beauties, a distinguished work of Azerbaijani classical literature by the great poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, published in Baku in 1947 in Russian. Through the stories of Bahram Gur and the seven beauties, the work gives artistic and philosophical expression to universal human ideas such as love, justice, wisdom, and spiritual perfection.

The inclusion of these five valuable editions in the virtual collection “Rare Books” provides users with an opportunity to obtain more detailed information about rare books from different historical periods preserved in the collections of the Presidential Library, as well as to explore their content and historical and cultural significance.
