Shafag Nasir, PhD in Philology, writer-publicist, and researcher of the history of Western Azerbaijani press, visited the Presidential Library of Azerbaijan. She donated to the library both her own scholarly works and editions that she had prepared for publication through transliteration from the old Arabic-based script. The donated volumes significantly enriched the library’s collection with valuable sources on the history of the national press, the literary and cultural milieu of Western Azerbaijan, and the region’s enlightenment traditions.
Shafag Nasir is among the scholars researching the history of the Irevan press of the twentieth century. She transliterated and prepared for publication Lak-lak (1914), one of the earliest satirical periodicals published in the native language in Irevan, as well as Burhani-haqiqat (1917), a journal reflecting the socio-political and literary processes of its era. In addition, the scholar has conducted substantial academic research on the lives and activities of Irevan’s enlightenment intellectuals.
A significant place in her academic research is occupied by the life and creative legacy of Mammadali Nasir, an early twentieth-century journalist associated with the “Molla Nasreddin” literary movement who was active in Irevan. Having compiled his articles published in various periodicals, Shafag Nasir issued the book Mammadali Nasir within the series Distinguished Intellectuals of Irevan. She is also the author of the monograph Mammadali Nasir, dedicated to the writer’s life and activities, his creative path and journalistic heritage.
A presidential scholarship recipient, Shafag Nasir is the laureate of the Hasan bey Zardabi Award and the International Rasul Rza Prize.
During the meeting, the Director of the Presidential Library, Professor Afet Abbasova, expressed her gratitude to Shafag Nasir for her contribution to the enrichment of the library collection and wished her continued success in her academic and creative endeavors.
