Professor Vefa Kurban, Head of the Department of Social, Economic, and Political Relations of the Turkic World at the Institute of Turkic World Studies of Ege University (Republic of Türkiye), has donated the book “Western Azerbaijan and the Zangezur Corridor: History, Economy, Law, and Regional Power Struggle” to the Presidential Library.
The publication examines the Zangezur Corridor—a geopolitically significant area in the South Caucasus—and Western Azerbaijan through the lenses of history, international relations, international law, economics, and strategy. It covers the region's historical development, demographic changes, the international legal framework, economic dynamics, and shifting power relations.
Against the backdrop of new geopolitical realities in the South Caucasus following Azerbaijan's 2020 victory, the book dedicates a separate analysis to the Zangezur Corridor's role. It evaluates the potential impacts of this route—which aims to establish a direct connection between Turkey and Azerbaijan—focusing not only on transport and economic development but also on regional cooperation, peace, and integration within the Turkic world.
The publication provides an extensive analysis of the Zangezur Corridor's potential impacts on regional geopolitics, its economic prospects, international law, demographic processes, and the interests of various parties. Integrating approaches from different fields, the author examines the corridor's potential effects on the region's future political and economic landscape.
The book offers scholars and specialists in history, international relations, international law, economics, and regional policy a single source to trace the subject's historical development, legal foundations, economic implications, and geopolitical context.
