“Moscow in its past and present” is a luxuriously illustrated twelve-volume edition released by the Publishing House “Education” in 1909-1912 and dedicated to the memory of the prominent Moscow historian I.E Zabelin. It features materials submitted by the leading scholars, archaeologists, art historians, and writers, highlighting the development of Moscow from ancient times to the early 20th century. Special attention is paid to the lifestyle of Muscovites, architecture, culture, and spiritual life of the city.The publication is richly illustrated. It includes approximately 1000 color and black-and-white illustrations, which are executed in the technique of photo-tint engraving based on original drawings by M. Demyanov, P. Afanasyev, and other artists. The books are printed on high-quality coated paper, equipped with original publisher's covers, and bound in stylized bindings reminiscent of those from the era. This copy is housed in the Rare Books collection of the Presidential Library as a unique commemorative edition, reflecting the scientific and artistic standards of its time.
