Virtual Exhibition

October 20 – Zangilan City Day

The virtual exhibition reflects Zangilan's historical development, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, natural-geographical features, and socio-economic potential. It is dedicated to studying and promoting the region’s historical and cultural values. The exhibition presents materials on the city's past, architectural monuments, natural resources, traditions, and its role in Azerbaijan's socio-political life. The liberation of Zangilan city from occupation on October 20, 2020—by the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev—marked a significant milestone toward restoring our country's territorial integrity. This date holds special significance, embodying the Azerbaijani people’s national will, commitment to statehood, and deep attachment to their historical lands. The virtual exhibition showcases information on the restoration and reconstruction measures implemented in the Zangilan region following its liberation from occupation—including the development of a living environment based on modern urban planning principles, the expansion of transport and communication infrastructure, the establishment of social facilities, and efforts to realize the region's economic potential. Additionally, the exhibition focuses on ensuring the population's return to their native lands—particularly within the framework of the "Great Return" program—as well as resettling residential areas and establishing sustainable socio-economic development in the region. The books in the virtual exhibition trace connections between Zangilan’s past and its current development, preserve the city’s historical memory, and share its cultural heritage with the general public. The exhibition supports the scientific and theoretical study of Zangilan’s historical and cultural heritage, highlights the city’s post-occupation development, promotes national and spiritual values, and strengthens historical memory for future generations.
